Follow Your Heart: the Story of April Flowers

Once upon a time, I created my dream job as a children’s music performer at a Renaissance festival…

In 2019, I joined the Fairy Tea Party at the Georgia Renaissance Festival after teaching myself to play tenor banjo in a month. I had so much fun with the fairies and the kids! That summer, I was accepted as a performer at the Carolina Renaissance Festival, but in order to take the job, I needed a setlist of all original songs. Knowing what I had to do to keep my dream alive, I set to work writing songs. Creativity poured out of me and I wrote the material I needed — material I was truly proud of and that would empower young kids while being silly and playful. I practiced my songs every day during a 3-week trip to Italy, lugging my banjo on every train and to every Airbnb, through multiple villages and regions. I gained confidence playing for my friends and members of a yoga retreat I attended in Tuscany. Throughout my travels, a feeling of success and eagerness was with me.

The following spring, I performed at the Arizona Renaissance Festival while pregnant with my son. My musical journey rolled on through my pregnancy and early motherhood, giving me new lessons and song material.

Now, my son is 2 years old and I am so excited to be releasing my debut album, “Hey Little Toddler”! This album is deeply personal, featuring 12 original songs and musical appearances from my family (including my husband and son!) and friends. I hope they bring as much joy, excitement, and valuable lessons to you and your family as they have to me and mine.

May you live the life that makes you happy and fulfills your heart.
